LESS HURRY. MORE POSSIBILITY.

Some work needs
a little distance.

From the everyday. From the full diary. From the feeling that there’s never quite enough time.

Fearainn Ur is our cosy cottage in the Highlands, in Letterfearn on the shore of Loch Duich. Whilst we’re abroad with work, we’re opening it as a self-catering retreat for writers, artists and anyone looking for time and space to create.

Bring a draft, a sketchbook, a question. Walk along the shore. Come home to a book and an evening by the fire. There’s no programme to follow: the days are yours.

LETTERFEARN, ON LOCH DUICH

Let the landscape
do its part.

A small village on a no-through road, with the loch on one side and the hills on the other. A place to return to each evening, with Kintail, Glenelg and Skye to explore when you need a change of scene.

Blue water and layers of mountain ridges around Loch Duich
Loch Duich, in a quieter moment.

Arrive, then slow down.

A car is recommended for getting here, stocking up and exploring. Inverness is a practical arrival point; allow around two hours for the onward drive, with extra time for weather and stops.

On the southern shore of Loch Duich, in the western Highlands, within reach of Kintail, Glenelg and the Isle of Skye.

Plan your route ↗
01

By car

A car is recommended for the journey, food shopping and exploring during your stay. From Inverness, allow roughly two hours, plus stops and extra time for traffic or winter weather.

From Glasgow or Edinburgh, plan a longer drive through the Highlands. Check your route and road conditions before you set off; arriving in daylight makes the final stretch easier.

02

By air

Inverness Airport is a practical starting point. Arrange a hire car for the onward journey, or connect into Inverness for rail or coach travel.

Allow time between flights and onward services. Public transport does not take you to the cottage door.

03

By train

Travel to Inverness, then take the Kyle Line towards Kyle of Lochalsh. Kyle of Lochalsh or Strathcarron can be used for the final transfer to Letterfearn.

Pre-book a taxi and confirm the fare and pickup before buying connecting tickets. Neither station is within an easy walk of the cottage.

Plan a rail journey ↗
04

By coach

Check Scottish Citylink for services towards Skye that stop at Shiel Bridge. You will need to arrange the final transfer to Letterfearn separately.

Services are limited, particularly on Sundays and in winter. Check the timetable for your travel dates and arrange a taxi in advance.

Before you arrive

Stock up on groceries on the way. The house guide gives further arrival and parking instructions; access details are shared privately before your stay. Journey times are approximate and services can change.

BEFORE YOU COME

A few
practical things.

Do I need to be a published writer?

No. The retreat is for people making time for creative work, at any stage. You set your own goals and pace.

Is this a hosted course or residency?

This is a whole-house, self-catering stay. There are no organised workshops, tutoring or meals included.

Can I stay for a weekend or a month?

Standard retreats are 21–28 nights, giving you time to settle into the house and your work.

Can I work online?

Wi-Fi is included and uses the 4G mobile network. It is relatively strong while mobile service is working, but it depends on that service. Plan for possible interruptions if your work needs a continuous connection.

What should I know about the house?

Both bedrooms are upstairs. This is a rural cottage with older appliances. The washing machine and freezer are in the shed and there is no tumble dryer. Further practical information will be provided before your stay.

What happens after I choose my dates?

Submit the booking form on this website and we’ll check the dates, confirm the price and provide booking and cancellation terms. If you’d like to go ahead, we’ll hold the dates for an agreed period and send a secure payment link. We confirm the booking after receiving the agreed payment. Submitting the form is a request, not a confirmed reservation.

Can I book through Airbnb?

We’re preparing an Airbnb listing alongside direct enquiries. If you make an enquiry or booking through Airbnb, communication and payment for that booking stay on Airbnb.
